Welcome to this Workspace!


This workspace is a place for the members of the Project Advisory Board to manage the process of selecting appropriate topics for discussion related to Self-Directed Learning (SDL) and Collaborative Learning (COL) in Primary and Secondary Schools as well as to engage in the discussions themselves. This workspace is facilitated by a team composed of members from the Education Technology Division (Ministry of Education) and the Learning Sciences Lab (National Institute of Education). The culmination of the discussions include a report (uploaded above) which is officially released on 10, February 2011. SDL and COL are chosen because they are foregrounded as desirable educational outcomes in Singapore's Ministry of Education's Third Masterplan for ICT in Education.

Project at a Glance:
Collaborators of the project will co-develop their ideas through this platform and a face-to-face consolidation meeting where possible.

Project Objectives
The key objectives of the project are:

(a) To discuss and identify key aspects of self-directed learning (SDL) and collaborative (CoL) learning to enhance their understanding and application in schools
(b) To problematise the definitions and explanations of identified key aspects of SDL and CoL against a backdrop of schools' common practices of curriculum design and implementation
(c) To extract feasible ideas of curriculum design with elements of SDL and CoL and to study its implementation possibilities and effectiveness in schools

We can plan to consolidate the above deliberations into publishable papers and conference presentations. Also, the project enables us to create an online space conducive for vibrant discussions and in the process, and for the facilitators and contributors, develop skills and deepen knowledge and understanding of using web 2.0 tools for collaboration by having a first-hand experience.
